OVER 54: ENGLAND 138-3 (Stokes 30, Jennings 70)– The feet are starting to move for Ben Stokes.

His strike rate is around 40 in this innings, but you can see him starting to itch as Akila sends down an overpitched delivery that is crashed through the covers.

Good shot for just one to the cover sweeper.

OVER 53: ENGLAND 135-3 (Stokes 29, Jennings 68)– “It’s just about batting Sri Lanka out of the game today.”

Goughie has it spot on. It’s been slow going after lunch, but just signs that Stokes is starting to up the rate.

Perera a little short, allowing the England all-rounder to slash a couple more through gully.

And you can’t bowl it up there. Just tossed up outside off-stump and Stokes is down, slog sweeping high over midwicket. Big cheers from the Fort.

OVER 52: ENGLAND 128-3 (Stokes 23, Jennings 68)– Nice sweep from Jennings, which CricViz shows is one of his strongest areas.

It brings them a single, with Stokes then forward and blocking despite Akila tossing it up, tempting the drive.

Good restraint from Stokes, who calls for new gloves. It’s a scorcher out there.

OVER 51: ENGLAND 127-3 (Stokes 23, Jennings 67)– Dilruwan Perera returns to the attack as Sri Lanka desperately try to break this partnership.

Another single from Jennings brings Stokes onto strike – and we have a rare event.

A BOUNDARY!We’ve not seen many today. An aggressive cut from the England No5 beats two diving fielders and flies over the cover rope.

OVER 50: ENGLAND 122-3 (Stokes 19, Jennings 66)– Great stuff from Akila.

Good length, ripping off-spin. Stokes is beaten three times in the over, with the ball lurching out the rough.

A maiden as Stokes tries to counter with a reverse-sweep, which goes straight to the man at point.
